- To see the size of a specific file or folder, click it once and then press Command-I. To see storage information about your Mac, click the Apple menu in the top-left of your screen. Choose About This Mac and click the Storage tab. For Time Machine backups, it's good to use a drive that has at least twice the storage capacity of your Mac.

- It’ll happen much more easily in a cheapo plastic Acer than your Macbook Pro — and in this case, more is not better. Likewise, for me, crashing will happen more frequently on Mac OS X Lion and MUCH more frequently OS X Mavericks than on OS X Mountain Lion. As an added bonus, OS X Mountain Lion is the last OS put out by Apple that will run.
- Up to a week or so ago, I was running Endnote X7.7.1 and Word 2011 for Mac on a 2011 MacBook Pro under OSX 10.10 Yosemite. Everything worked fine. (Oh happy days!). Then I bought a new MacBook Pro 2018 running OS X 10.13.3 High Sierra. I migrated all my apps and documents. Word 2011 continued to wor.
