I lent my Apple Wireless Keyboard to my mother about a year ago and have been using it with the wrong name ever since. This isn’t a big deal, but it’s a little strange to keep pairing with “mom’s bluetooth keyboard” when it really should say “Ragpad’s keyboard”, after my iPad. Fortunately, I found a solution to this niche problem just the other day. You can’t rename an Apple Wireless Keyboard from the iPad, but you can do so from a Mac (or even a PC, I believe). All you need to do is:
- pair the Apple Wireless Keyboard with the Mac
- head to Bluetooth in the System Preferences panel
- click on the small gear symbol in the bottom-left corner
- click on “rename”
For macOS High Sierra 10.13.6 (17G65), to rename, go to System Preference → Bluetooth → Control + click to open rename option.(for other macs use a double click on the object you want to rename then click rename, for others, use this technique: click on the item click the log, then rename. Rename Bluetooth devices. Turn on Bluetooth on your Windows 10 PC, and connect the Bluetooth device that you want to rename. Open Control Panel and go to Hardware and Sound Devices and Printers. Select the Bluetooth device that you want to rename, right-click it, and select Properties from the context menu. On 10.15.4, Reset SMC and NVRAM/PRAM, name on Apple Mouse changes but is not retained after closing Sys Prefs and coming back. Magic Mouse 1 name change is permanent. (Also tried Debug mode on Bluetooth Hold Shift+Option when clicking on Bluetooth icon in Menu and that did not work in making the name change permanent.). Pairing Apple Wireless Mouse and Keyboard to Windows 8, Windows 8.1, Windows 7, Vista and XP is made easier with third-party tools. All you need to have is a Bluetooth enabled Laptop or a PC. If your machine is not Bluetooth enabled, you can still connect Apple Wireless Keyboard and Mouse to Windows operating system.

The very last steps you may need to take might be to unpair the Apple Wireless Keyboard from your iPad (tell the iPad to “forget this device” in Bluetooth settings), power down both the Apple Wireless Keyboard (I removed the AA batteries) and restart your iPad. The name should change take effect when you pair next pair the two devices. I realize this is a very niche tip, but it could prove useful for those who bought their Apple Wireless Keyboards second hand, or simply want to rename one of their most-used Bluetooth accessories.

Hi. The Magic Mouse's display name is Servant777 but it's actual name is really something like mouse no. 1 which I take was from the store that first paired the mouse to test it ( I usually have it tested first after buying things, not all the time but sometimes, can't remember, it was 3 years ago). How to register richtx32 ocx file.
How do you kind of 'reset' the Magic Mouse like it's the first time it's being used and paired. I've tried: disconnecting and removing it from the bluetooth preference as well the on in the Mouse settings. It'd be nice if there's some kind of reset but it doesn't change the actual name, only the disply name could be changed. Is there any Terminal command for this?
